100 CLUB
Fourth draw - August 2011
1st prize - Barry Martin; 2nd prize - Frank Watt; 3rd prize - Sue Brown.
Well done to all our winners.
Mawnan Smith - Concert - #Thanks to Fred for oranising the excellent concert in the village hall on the Thursday prior to the Exmouth concert. The raffle and collection raised over £300. Our thanks, as ever, go to Fred for not only arranging this concert but also for collecting the Mawnan Smith newspapers every week and to the people of Mawnan for their continued support.
New Shirts - These were worn for the first time at the Mawnan concert and thanks and gratitude go to Mike Wilson and Hine Downing Solicitors for their continued support and sponsorship.
New Treasurer - We are lucky to have Mike Wilson as our new Treasurer. Earlier in the year, Bill Concr, who kept the finances in order for many years, was unable to continue after a serious illness. To show our appreciation of Bill's many years, both as Treasurer and player, Glyn and Arthur went round to Bill's home and gave him some Manchester United memorabilia as he is a keen supporter.
Fund Raising Efforts - Despite the economic climate, our fund raising efforts over the last couple of months have been supberb. First there was the sponsored blow at Asda which raised over £800. Well done to everyone, espeically Chris, for the splendid amount of sponsorship money. Asda were so pleased with our efforts that we have two Christmas bookings at the store - Sunday 11th December and Wednesday 14th December. The fete held in August at the Pavilions raised almost £500 despite the weather and the state of the gardens due to ongoing improvements. Thank you to the small, but wonderful, team of helpers on the day and also to Gweek Silver Band for providing the music. A bonus to our fund raising was the trip to Padstow where we were blessed with the best weather for several weeks. After being forced to cancel our original booking, we were lucky to get another opportunity and the money raised, approximately £540, will more or less help towards covering our expenses for Cheltenham.
Good Luck Katie! Cheltenham will be the last contest that Katie will be playing in before going off to University. Another produce of our youth band, Katie will be missed and we all wish her well in whatever career move she makes. Katie - you will always be welcome back in Pendennis when you come back home. Steffi is also off to Plymouth University and we wish her all the best as well.
Finally - good news for Glyn. His specialist has signed him off and we are delighted that his traumatic year is finally behind him.
